윤석열 대통령이 다음 달 10일 퇴임하는 유남석 헌법재판소장 후임으로 이종석(62·사법연수원 15기) 헌법재판관을 18일 지명했다. 김대기 비서실장은 이날 오후 브리핑에서 “이 후보자는 29년간 법관으로,이종석검수완박법엔입법취소의견공수처법위헌입장 또 5년간 헌법재판관으로 재직했고 실력과 기품을 갖춘 명망 있는 법조인”이라고 지명 이유를 설명했다. 그러면서 “재판관으로서 뚜렷한 소신과 해박한 법률 지식을 바탕으로 대한민국의 헌법질서 수호에 앞장서 왔다”며 “앞으로 헌재를 이끌며 확고한 헌법수호 의지와 따뜻한 인권보호 정신을 실현하고, 우리 사회의 복잡한 이해관계에 대한 조정과 통합을 빈틈없이 할 것으로 믿는다”고 말했다.
